The movies I, Personally and Very Subjectively I Enjoyed the Most

2020 was a pretty weird year. Like a million other things last year, our viewing habits were deeply impacted. How we watched movies, and even what we watched changed, or at least it did for me. But I’m willing to bet I wasn't the only one.

It’s been over a year since the last time I was in a movie theater. And I have no idea when I’ll be able to see a movie on the big screen again. Since then, there have been so many movies delayed that it’s kind of hard to take any announced release dates seriously. In fact, I pretty much stopped paying attention to movie news. Because of that, I completely missed movies that I probably would have wanted to see.

I also found myself watching a lot more shows than I used to. Starting TV shows can feel like a big commitment. I can’t count how many shows I wanted to watch over the years but talked myself out of it because I just didn’t think I would have enough time for it. But in 2020, time wasn’t an issue. I finally watched The Sopranos. (I loved it) I re-watched Firefly, still great. I watched Man Seeking Woman. (Great show) And…many others.

And there’s also the fact that there are some movies that I just haven’t been able to watch. Nomadland and Minari are two movies I really want to see but they aren’t streaming and movie theaters aren’t open in New York City.

Also, watching everything at home had an impact on what movies I want to see, how I enjoy them, and, in a way, even what I want from a movie. So, because of that, my top 5 isn’t really complete and feels a little…odd but that seemed appropriate for 2020. If you feel like checking out my list, you can do so here.
